When you switch accounts your old sort code and account number become forwarders to your new account.

So no you don't have to tell your employer or HMRC, the new details should get passed on automatically and updated.

If using the full Current Account Switch Guarantee backed switching service, your employer will be informed and even if they don't action it your old current account number will forward to your new account indefinitely.
