Hello everyone, i'm not sure i'm posting this in the right place but here goes.
I went to Amsterdam last weekend and prepaid for our hotel (Qbic - £480 ish) a month or so before we went. I returned on Tuesday and after checking my bank account noticed the hotel had refunded me the full amount for our stay whilst we were there. I have emailed the hotel twice now but have not had any response from them, and tried calling only to be put on hold for ages (I only get half hour lunch break)
Does anyone know how this could have happened? Do they have to let me know if they're going to debit the full amount back before they do it now, or can they just take it when they've realised they've messed up?
As far as I'm concerned I've done what I can so far, I've let them know they've made a mistake. I don't have time to keep ringing and being put on hold.
Any advice on what to do would be great.
Thanks

Just to add, a few friends stayed and prepaid too and they didn't get refunds...0

Should give it a few more days for a response.
Don't move the money but keep it where it is when they ask for it back or take it. Not sure if they should inform you before they take it since they are in Holland, dont know the rules regarding this.0 -
Yeah I will wait and see if they do reply, never been in this situation before it's a strange one. It's surprising how stressful/annoying it is having money in your account that doesn't belong there0

It might be worth contacting your bank and telling them what happened and seeing if there is anything that they suggest.
They may be able to contact the sending bank who in turn may contact the hotel.0 -
I would just keep the money to one side for now and remember not to sepnd it.
No doubt someone will balance the books at some point and realise the error.
Not sure whether there is a time limit they can just re-take the money. I once ate at a restaurant in Switzerland and it took three months before the transaction appeared on my credit card bill!
As they took the money then refunded, I assume they can just re-take it as itnis still owed...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thank you, I will contact the bank I think. The annoying thing is because of the pound pretty much getting weaker by the day I'll probably end up paying a few quid more than I originally paid0

Well done for doing the honest thing and emailing the hotel.
I think that is more than enough. The ball is now in their court. I imagine the hotel will realise their error and debt your account.
It isn't your responsibility to contact the bank or to keep chasing the hotel.0 -
Personally I would just leave it alone & get on with something more constructive.0
