Car identified after hit and run but police taking no action

If the car did damage to your friend's car then you would think it would have damage on itself right? So did you look and find any signs of damage on the car?
The first 4 characters of a plate are all standardised by area and year, so it's very easy to see the same combination of first 4 letters in any given area. For example my car is EA17, so any 2017 car currently sold in that part of Essex will have exactly those 4 digits on the plate.
And black is quite a common colour. Not to mention you don't even know if it was a Mercedes, just a "black car". Not very specific.
Unless you can prove that this other Mercedes is the same car as the one that hit your friend there's not much you can do unfortunately.0 -

Geoff1963, after we found the car, the first thing I was gonna do was have a good look round it and take some pictures - it hit a red car so I sort of assumed something might show up on black paint.
Trouble was the car was parked right up against their house on the drive and I thought someone is bound to see me and frankly, if this person is the sort of selfish moron who drives away after hitting someone else's car, I didn't fancy getting into a conversation about what I thought of him/her.0 -
I was wondering if the Merc driver comes and goes at similar times, so a suitable dash cam would get a good picture.0

Was told by a policeman that their priority now is young persons due to the media coverage on grooming gangs; spending all their time on that; they are not even interested in drug dealers right now; from the horse's mouth!
Your chances of getting them involved in a motoring issue where no-one was injured is remote I'm afraid. You could always initiate a private prosecution though.0 -
I don't think there's enough evidence even for civil case. A partial number plate isn't enough even for balance of probability in my view0

Who was he? The Chief Constable? I'd take anything said as flippantly as that with a large handful of salt. Way too general.0 -

So if you want the Police to actually turn up, you no longer say "I think he has a gun" you say "I think he is grooming youngsters"
And how much of my tax pays for the Police......
On topic, a while ago a colleague had their parked car reversed into by the neighbour opposite. Found the taillight glass off the neighbours car, and it was fairly obvious they had backed out of their drive, not turned enough and caught the parked car.
They went over and spoke to the neighbour, who told them where to go (fourth and multiply was the gist) so they called the Police.
Must have been a quiet week, as they turned up and went for a "word" with the neighbour.
The gist of the conversation was the neighbour denied everything, and refused to show the Police their car (which was safely garaged).
Without witnesses nothing happened. It is not enough to know who did something, you have to be able to prove it.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

No regular plod but it was totally genuine; not flippant. He was as !!!!ed off with the situation as your average taxpayer. No one likes to see drug dealers have a free run of things.0
