Credit Limit question

Hi,

On a number of occasions I have paid my minimum payment and soon after spent on my card(close to but never over the agreed limit)before the interest payments were taken by the CC company(HSBC)thereby taking the balance over my agreed limit.

I have never been charged a penalty fee or anything and always pay off the difference(and minimum payment)by the next statement so assumed my agreed credit limit was exclusive of interest repayments for that month. I am worried this will now show up on my credit history as exceeding my credit limit..is this the case?

Thanks..it's a grey area I want to be aware of before I apply for a balance transfer.

Check your credit report, for FREE and see if there are any (1)'s on it http://www.joincreditexpert.com/freecreditreport/?sc=410015&bcd=experiancredexpmarmt

  • Thanks but I'd rather not leave a footprint of a credit check for something relatively simple. :)

The fact that you've searched your own file is not seen by other lenders.

Because it's classed as an 'unrecorded enquiry', the search is only visible to yourself and the credit reference agency.
  • I did the experian check and oddly my hsbc credit card didn't show up. Whats that about?

Only my barclaycard and some long forgotten store card were on the report.

There are other credit reference agencies in the UK and not all companies that provide credit report to all of them. You will definately have a record of this card with one of them, you'll need to get your report from either equifax or callcredit
