Just wondering if people have any views on which bank has the best security. Have an irrational fear that my account will be wiped out one day. Seem to remember First Direct being quoted in some article

I think the key word in your post is "irrational", because that's what it is. There is almost no chance of what you fear happening, and if it does the bank will make good the loss as long as you haven't been complicit in the wiping out. The weakest link in bank security is the customer, so if you take care you have nothing to worry about.0 -
All I know is that Barclays are trusted by the Government to verify your ID. I wouldn't have thought this was likely if their security was not sufficient.
No institution is full proof from hackers, account holders' incompetence or internal computer issues.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -

They CAN all be hacked.
Spread your money around several banks and keep a paper record of your balances

Which? magazine rated banks for online security in October 2016. First Direct did come out on top scoring 78% on the four measured areas of login, encryption, account management and navigation & logout.
Whatever bank is used though I do believe that if the customer is vigilant that they are unlikely to suffer from fraud. That said, despite being extremely vigilant I suffered attempted fraud. My bank though did pick this up and notified me and then refunded me immediately.0 -

Metro Bank have one good security feature that no other bank uses. They take your photo when you sign up to an account.
If someone steals my card and attempts to use fake id to withdraw money over the counter, they will fail as the teller will see my photo on the screen and know the person in front of them is not me.Never Knowingly Understood.

They didn't when I joined.
If you're talking about online security, then the solution employed by HSBC/First Direct is more secure than that used by most banks as their SecureKey is unique to your account.0
