Birmingham City Centre/Airport

Options
Can anyone suggest a hotel that is fairly near Birmingham Airport but also has easy access to the city centre?
We are driving up from South Wales to attend a concert on Thursday October 12th but don't fancy driving through the centre of Birmingham. On Friday 13th we are flying to Ibiza for 3 nights
Ideally we would like to park our car and stay somewhere in between and get public transport into the centre and maybe a taxi back after the concert then drive to the airport the following day.

Pleny of hotels in the city centre to suit many budgets, the train takes 15 mins to BHX.

Why not book a hotel with parking deal near the airport? Park car and leave it until after your holiday.

Holiday inn express near the airport might have a parking package.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Where is the concert?
  • The concert is in Birmingham Town Hall.
  • Dependent on your budget/desires there are a couple of possibilities, here is some suggestions:-

    1) Hilton Birmingham Metropole - it’s in the NEC and walking distance to Birmingham International Station (trains to New Street every 10 mins or so and take c. 15-20 mins). You can also catch the Air-Rail-link which takes about 3 mins to the airport from the station as well. I believe that the hotel also offers discounted long-term car parking deal for airport customers (you will need to check as I might be out of date)

    2) Ibis which is at the airport you can catch the Air-Rail link to Birmingham International Station (see above)

    3) Arden Hotel - near the station/airport but not walking distance – I think that they run a shuttle bus.

    4) Premier Inn - near the station/airport but not walking distance

    5) Hampton Manor – If your feeling rich this is in the village of Hampton-in-Arden, and is a couple of minutes walk from Hampton-in-Arden station, which is the next station along from Birmingham International and 20 minutes by train to New Street. It is expensive however.

The problem with some of these (e.g. permier inn and Arden) is that they charge for the shuttle bus service.

It all depends how MSE you want to be, how much spare time you have the day of the concert, how early your flight is the next day, how risk averse you are, and how much faff you are willing to put up with.

One easy way to save money is to street park near a station on the Coventry- Birmingham line (e.g. Marston Green) and just get a train to the airport.
You could then just find any hotel in Birmingham with reasonable transport links to the centre and then just drive to Marston Green the morning of your flight. (There are some stations on that line, that I wouldn't park near).

    I've been Money Tipped!
Depends what time of day you're travelling.

Personally I'd go straight to the airport, leave the car there for holidays & train into/out of the city. Trains run to the airport very late at night. However, if you're travelling at rush hour, I'd find a hotel the m5 side of Brum, taxi/bus in & out of the city then drive toto a train station the next morning & park.there. I wouldn't try to get to the airport at peak times as you'll be stuck on the M42 car park.
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
  • Our flight is sat 14:30 so would need to get to the airport by 12:30 ish. Torn between airport hotel or been looking at Best Western Hotel Acocks Green. They do a a deal for b & b with airport parking We could leave the car and get taxis to and from the airport. Is that an area easy for us to get to??
