Kwik Fit

Hi,
I live in Edinburgh and I took my car to Kwik fit to have it repaired due I had one tire which was slashed. I asked them to give it a check too to make sure it was ok.
This was in May of this year. They did a check on the car and they said the break pads needed changing, battery needed changing and all tires needed changing. Total repair was over £900!
My car is a Peugeot 308 automatic four door and hatchback from 2010. It has had two owners (one of them being myself). i bought the car at end of 2012 and have always been checking it... Never have I been charged that amount of money for repairs...After I picked my car up after it was fixed, the engine started overheating. (In all the years I have used that car it has never done that). The venting system was struggling to keep the engine from overheating and you could hear it struggling too.
I told Kwik Fit about it and they said the car was fully fixed when I picked it up... It seems that they did something they shouldn't have to it which damaged the venting system...
I then took it to the MOT and asked them to check the venting system... They said it was ok... Soon after though, the problem with the venting system continued...
I called and told them and they said for me to bring the car to be checked...
I took it over a month ago for them to check the venting system again... However, this time, whilst checking the venting system, they left the car in gear and the car went forwards and the right side of the car got completely smashed! This includes the door in and out (the
Mechanic had the door open), the side of the car and the bumper...
I have been asking them to send me si begging in writing that the repairs of the car will be guaranteed... I git nothing! I had to write a letter to Kwik Fit Heaf office documenting the damage of the car crash by the mechanic in Kwik fit who was negligent.
I know they think they can just get off with fixing my car and all because I am a woman and know nothing about cars...
How can I find out what is the fair amount of compensation they should give me do I am not ripped off please? They just want me to pick up the car and get away without paying me for the damage.
The Kwik fit operations manager agreed that the Mechanic in Kwik Fit had been negligent.
After having mentioned this story, I would like to know what is the compensation I am due please? They smashed my car and that devalues the car price of I were to sell it (even if they have fixed it).
This is urgent please! I was just recommended to write to you as Citizens Advice is not helpful on this matter and neither is the police. After a month, the car is ready to collect. (I am currently using a rental car they gave me).
I would really appreciate your help as I don't have the money to pay a lawyer and also dont have full insurance coverage for them to fight this.

I have pictures of the damage of my car and I also have the letter which I sent the Head Office at Kwik Fit.
I am very nervous about all this... This has caused a lot of mental distress.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards

If they fix it properly then it won't devalue it. I cant see why fixing the brakes, which probably didn't even need done, would cause the car to overheat.
As to compensation well that's not something you are automatically entitled to, You are entitle to consequential losses. This is the money you have had to spend due to the car being away for the repairs to the damage they caused. You got a rental car so you will struggle to come up with any actual losses, you don't spend anything you don't get anything.
Sorry but if you think compensation is due then you will need to go before a court and explain why.
Mental distress, everyone says that these days, good luck proving it.0 -
For the love of God stop taking your car to a Kwik Fitt!!!
Asking them to give it the once over translates as please pull down my pants and spank me!
This is what they do, it's their business model. Effectively you've jumped in a shark tank and said bite me and now you are wondering why you have been bitten.
Find a local independent garage and use them, ask friends and colleagues or even better local taxi drivers where they get their cars serviced/repaired.0 -
I'm with worried jim.....don't take your car to kwik fit for work done.
Not going to criticise you for it, it took me years to find garages I trust but that was after a lot of supposedly "reputable" garages screwing up/trying to take advantage. Just I'd advise only to go to the likes of kwik fit for very simple things - like new tyres perhaps.
If you're really stuck, I can give you the details of a garage about 30-40 mins/20-25 miles from edinburgh who I've had work from a few times and trust - but personally I'd say try and find one local to you (try asking on local facebook groups for recommendations).
As for the car, you can only claim quantifiable losses as bris suggests. So, are you able to prove that the accident devalues the car and how much it will devalue it by? Nothing to stop you asking for slightly more as a goodwill gesture, but theres no entitlement to it (hence the goodwill part). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
You actually went to the police?!0

Cars don't have any kind of "venting" system to cool the engine. It's just air coming in the front to cool a radiator which is sometimes assisted by the fan. I can't see how them changing the breaks (spelling intentional), battery or tyres could cause the car to overheat unless they were extremely incompetent.
There is no excuse for you to not know about cars and you have already lost atlesst £900 because of this. You really should so some research and learn a little about cars online so you don't get ripped off again.0 -

Does learning a little about cars include learning that they have brakes and not breaks?0 -

I'm glad you agree with me the about the OP...Hi,

Or did i accidentally type "breaks" due to autocorrect and i am now covering it up by pretending it was intentional :rotfl: you will never know
