Is 1.5GB of Ram enough to Run Windows 7 on?

Will this be okay, please?

Microsoft says "1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)"
    I expect others to clarify...

80 GB of disk might be a bit tight, and the laptop will be slow.

    Thanks for the replies.

Just planning on using it as a spare.

The 80 GB will just be for music.

As long as Windows 7 installs that's good to know.

I guess i wont know just how slow it will be until i try?

Come back XP it used very little RAM?

Unless they're giving the laptop away or selling it for under £20, I honestly wouldn't bother buying it. It's a very dated spec.

It'll be OK as a doorstop

My Netbook runs Windows 7 Professional on 1.5GB of RAM. But, it also has a solid state drive fitted.
It will run fine, as long as you don't expect a speedy performance.

For music, you should have no problem using it with Win7. Is it Win7 Home Premium? It would handle Pro, but HP would be even better. According to 2013 reviews I found of this laptop, it can be slow.

80 GB will hold lots of music.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • It'll be fine if it's used as a second system for basic tasks. I have an old Intel Atom Samsung Netbook which I upgraded to 2GB RAM a while ago and installed Windows 7 Pro on. It's fine for basic web browsing but anything else and it bottlenecks.

Personally I wouldn't run anything less than a 64bit OS with 8GB RAM as an everyday system these days.

They are fine with SSD, but not at current prices. I bought when they were £25. So a worthwhile investment. Especially as mine is a single core Atom. Now actually usable and of course more robust.

My PC has 4GB RAM and SSD as a boot drive. 8GB of RAM isn't a necessity.
  • I got my Netbook in 2010 one of the first Atoms. Originally it only had 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM. Replaced the HDD for a 500GB one when it broke and upgraded the RAM.

Noticed recently that a lot websites won't fit on the 10" screen anymore which makes it a real pain to use.
