Cashing Dollar Cheque

Can Anyone advise on the best way to cash a cheque issued in dollars in the UK? My own bank charges seem high for this service.

If you search this board for 'dollar cheque' there are several previous threads, but no good news. Try to return it and receive electronic payment.

All banks charge a high amount for cashing USD cheques, and it can take many weeks to clear if it has to be sent back to the issuing bank first. If you can get it replaced with an electronic payment it will be cheaper and quicker, and will have the added benefit of helping to drag the US banking system and it's users into the latter part of the 20th century.
