Volkswagen Dataplug - VW Connect

Hi All,
I received an email today to drop in to my dealer for a free dataplug (fits in the diagnostic port) which will connect my phone to my car, for detailed performance and economy data and a less useful car locator.
My question is really, has anyone already installed this and is it worth it? Any security/privacy concerns?
Thanks in advance

Privacy concerns = how much location data are they collecting and who are they selling it to?
You can get an OBD dongle off ebay for less than £6 which wont track you and give you all the data with free apps.

They do not collect any location data - all the data is stored on the user's mobile phone, no data is stored either by Volkswagen or by the dataplug itself. All Volkswagen would hope is that when the app prompts that a service is due that you send this notification to your preferred Volkswagen retailer - however there is no obligation to do so.0

Why is the car locator less useful? Could be very handy if you forget where you parked or the car is towed away or nicked.0
