Putting MP3 files into order on mp3 player

Hi, I have discovered that when I transfer some of my MP3 files onto my MP3 player, they go out of order. This is despite all measures I have taken to number the file names etc.

I suspect that this is due to the tags but that would just be a guess.

Could anybody help please? If it is the tags, is there any free software available to quickly and easily change the tag names (I am thinking of something like Bulk Rename Utility which is just great!).

It does sound like your MP3 player uses ID3 tags.
Mp3/Tag Studio is available as unlimited trial version with an ad banner. http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/

I use it and find it ok to use.

Better yet, there's a free tag editor: ID3 TagIt

MP3Tag is also free.

In fact, search for MP3 tag editor in Google and there are quite a few. I use the first one, and I've tried the second.
