Upvc window problem

I have a upvc window (more than one actually) that when open everything works fine. The handle moves the locking bolts and lays flat. But when I close the window it closes tight against the frame, but the handle wont go back to horizontal and therefore the pins aren't locking.
I'm just about DIY savvy enough to fix new handles, but just wonder if it's not that simple.
Thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds like one of the multipoint locking points is jamming. With some of ours the pins that go up & down into the corners were too long & hitting the plastic frame. Is it the type that you can lock ajar? Sometimes you can see what's going on if you try that.

Thanks for response. Just been trying some experiments following your ideas.

Unfortunately it's a top small window, horizontally closing, so not much visibility. It does have a nearly closed position, but it's so close you can't see anything.

    What I've just done is...

1.. took off completely the 2 steel dual fixing slots in the frame. The window closes up tight and the handle moves fine. But obviously not fixed in any way.

2.. after I'd reassembled it I tried shutting it "ajar", something I'd never had reason to do until now. And it worked fine. Handle laid flat and locked etc.
Still no good in fully shut mode though.

So it looks like the window isn't shutting snugly enough against the frame to reach the second track. As the track mechanism is a one piece item, I can't locate the second track to accommodate the problem.
I think the only thing it proves is, that it isn't the handle, which is a pity.

    Have you any other ideas?

    Regards Dave

I'm no double glazing expert, just a user. How about taking the metal fixing slot thingies off one at a time to see which is causing the problem, then look for any marks to show where the sticky out bit is hitting it. Sorry about the technical jargon.

I had to look up all your jargon ! But after much fiddling around (you'll have to look up that one) have drawn a blank on everything. Basically it doesn't close sufficiently to engage the slot thingies.

So I'm going to get a real man in to have a look. I'll update this forum with result so that it's here for future reference.
    Thanks for your help though.
