Vauxhall Zafira won't start no click
I hv a vauxhall zafira 2007 petrol 2.2 automatic.
For 1 month when i put the key in sometimes and sometimes it doesnt start and no clicking from starter, all lights on and nothing at all.
I changed the starter motor and its still wont start.
The only trick i do to start it is to get a plier and bridge the terminals on the starter motor and go inside the car to turn the key then it starts a few times and stops again, no clicking.
The battery is absolutly fine.
I dig dipper and notice when it wont start there is a relay in the fuse box that clicks continuously. When this isnt clicking it starts straight away.
Ive swappef relays but same issue when its not starting.
Im getting tired of going under the engine to bridge the starter motor before kicking it from the ignition. It starts again a few times before reoccuring but its now getting so frequent.
Anyone knows anything to do or any suggestion.
Remember it was same issues before wasting money to buy another starter motor and still same.
Please help me out.
Thanks

Solenoid perhaps? Or have you checked the battery terminals to make sure they're connected properly?
Is the car making any noise at all (i know you said no click but is it trying to turn over?)? When you have a full load (all lights on etc) and try to start it, are the lights dimming? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Battery is absolutly fine. Solenoid is ruled out because it was doing the same with the old starter and this is another starter motor and its same.
It dosent spin or click at all and all light on dash comes on as normal0 -
Worth checking the earth strap from starter to battery and the live feed from battery to starter.
Given bridging the contacts makes it work my money would be on the live feed ( the much thicker red lead). Bridging the contacts means you could be drawing far too much current through the ecu possibly damaging it.
Easy way to check is to connect jump leads from the starter live feed and earth directly to the battery and see it it starts.0 -
Another possibility is a faulty ignition switch.0

Could be ignition switch or wiring to the starter. when you turn the key to position where it kicks the starter in do you feel any pressure? or does it turn too freely?0

Immobilizer wiring?0

Nobody mentioned what's probably the single most likely cause, the inhibitor switch on the autobox, or the relays from it?
The starter should only operate when the box is in N or P, for safety reasons. The inhibitor switch, plus relays, stops it from operating unless the selector is in the right place. It's a common source of problems.0 -
Thanks all, when i turn the key sometimws it starts but when its not starting, there is no click or cranking sound. It just go silent.0

Thanks all, i just had a second taught when i read someone mention about the inhibitor switch. I only try to start on P. I think i should try to put the gear in position N and try to see if it will start.
Also tomorrow i will try to check the live cable to starter motor and earth cable to the engine.
I also read some forum and ignition switch as mention may also be the solution.
Im off work tomorrow saturday so im trying everything possible so i will update you guys on the outcome.0 -
Update, i have cleaned all terminals, checked all contacts, unscrewed sand- papered and screwed back earth with live cables to improve contact. Also ive filled + and - battery terminals.
I also put the gear to N but all this hasnt solved the problem.
Still the same issue. Im getting tired of it.
I have contacted a motor electrician but waiting for him to pop in.0
