World for Less

Last summer a friend was showing me a supplement from the weekend press which had a purse on it she liked. I liked it too and it was on BOGOF, so I thought I'd buy her one and put it away for Christmas and keep the free one for myself. I filled in the coupon and the purses arrived.

In January this year, saw a transaction appear on my credit card for $147 which works out around £80. It was from a company called World for Less which I'd never heard of, so I disputed it and Capital One removed it from my account.

This month, my statement arrived and Capital One have reapplied the $147 to my account. I called for advice and they said World for Less has shown them evidence that I ordered goods from them. I was told it was a shopping discount club and I was given a telephone number to contact.

I phoned World For Less who said when I bought the purses, the company would have tried to sell me the World For Less discount club and I must have accepted. The transaction was mail order though, and I certainly wouldn't have agreed to pay to join a discount club. The lady claimed they sent me a membership pack, but I've never had any communication from them.

I asked if they could refund me as I didn't want to be a member and I hadn't agreeded to it. The lady said you can only cancel in the 3 month trial period, so no refunds could be given. I objected and said I didn't know I was a member till now so how was I supposed to cancel in my trial period, and she said there was nothing she could do and hung up on me

What can I do now? I just resent paying £80 for something that is no use to me, and something I've been signed up for without my consent.

I can't remember the name of the company I bought the purses from either, and I had a purge on old statements, so don't have the ones from last summer now.
Here I go again on my own....

on a more helpful note....whatever the numbskulls at C1 are telling you, you still have a right to a refund. Ask them (and World for Less) for a signed (by you) copy of the Consumer Credit agreement. If they can't produce this (which they can't according to your story) then ask C1 to flag it up as fraud, and report to thr police.
