Voluntary Work Abroad

Hi

I know this is not the forum for this type of question, but it's the closest one I could find.

I am 63, and would like to go abroad and do voluntary work, anywhere.

I looked at Voluntary Services Overseas, but they require you have a trade.

I was a pay clerk in the Royal Navy, and after, a postman, so I don't have any qualifications.

I could do work like building homes, working in fields etc.

I can pay my airfare and don't need any payment.

Are there any organisations I can contact?

Hope it's ok I ask this in this forum.

Tks

Ask around small local charities in your area.

I can think of several around us, eg - a local church supports a school abroad and a family whose daughter volunteered with VSO continue to raise money and go out to help the village she worked in.

if you don't mind working with disabled adults then L'Arche is great!

You can be of any age and you can choose how long you want to stay and they are always looking for volunteers.

Done it, although over 10 years ago and was a great experience and still have friends working there

I think you may struggle to find anyone who wants to use you, the problem is that all you can offer is labour and that is the one thing that is not in short supply in the places where voluntary organisations work. I would check carefully anyone who does offer you a position to make sure it is genuine.

You are probably teeming with skills you're not even aware of. I would sit down and write down all the things you're good at and enjoy doing. It may be hard at first but persevere and you'll come up with loads of things I promise. This will then give you some sense of direction.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Yes, also google voluntourism - there's a lot of debate about whether it does more harm than good.

Yes, although I didn't mention it as I don't think it's quite the thing that the OP wants to do it was one of the things behind my reason for posting.

    Have a look at http://volunteers.grupovaughan.com/what-we-do/vaughan-town
I have volunteered with them for the past 5 years now, rewarding experience, and you are in a 4* hotel with three meals a day. All you have to do is talk. The days are long, but it is so much fun.
