Capital one ppi claim... help

Options
My wife had a credit card with cap one from 1998 to 2014, and we want to claim the ppi back but I've heard bad things about cap one being hard to deal with, they have an on line tool to use but I'm a bit wary, and wonder whether to use the forms from mse, we did try to use a claims handling company about 7 year ago but they said cap one were very difficult to claim against. My wife has had 2 cancers 4 and 5 years ago and we didn't even claim as we didn't know we had it, when we realised we did we spoke to cap one to say we wanted to claim the ppi back and they said it hadn't been mis sold, I said that's impossible as we would have claimed when she was off work for 2 years but they were adamant, any help would be appreciated guys

but I've heard bad things about cap one being hard to deal with,

Cap One had a very low success rate at the FOS. It was running at around 11% for a while. So, that meant 9 out of 10 cases going to the FOS ended up rejected. The interpretation of that is that Cap One were being very good with PPi complaints. Too good it could be argued from a commercial point of view. They then started rejecting more and the FOS complaint uphold rate went up and its now running at higher than average.
we did try to use a claims handling company about 7 year ago but they said cap one were very difficult to claim against.

Which was complete BS as 7 years ago was when Cap One had they very low rejection rate. It was actually easier to get an uphold decision back then compared to today.
when we realised we did we spoke to cap one to say we wanted to claim the ppi back and they said it hadn't been mis sold,

You get one bite of the cherry. So, as you have already complained and have been rejected, your PPI journey is over. You cannot complain again.

Unfortunately, any attempt to resurrect this complaint will simply result in a reiteration of the original rejection. You cannot keep complaining after being rejected unless you have found very compelling evidence not in your original complaint.

If you insist on going ahead despite what we have said, I recommend you complain directly via letter or their online complaints tool.

Do not forget that the Claims company will still want a slice of your redress in the unlikely event you are somehow successful.

But what about the fact that no claim was made through the ppi for the 2 years my wife was off work, if we had known we were covered we could have claimed, does that not make a difference?

You've complained already and been rejected. You then had six months to refer the complaint to the Ombudsman if you felt that the rejection was unfair. You are now far too late for that.

I recommend you re-read the reasons the Bank gave for rejecting your complaint. Surely they would have addressed your concerns?

Cap One are very hard to deal with for PPI, once they decline you it is almost impossible to get them to change their mind.

And its true about their success rate at the FOS. Very few people were refunded.
