If I posted every hoax email I receive on here it would outnumber other posts by about 20:1. Do we need that?

    Hi there.

Well, 'we' can go a few ways with this.

It's perhaps slightly annoying that people post seemingly frivolous or common problems that we'd rather not have to read. Likewise, it's perhaps annoying to hear the usual 'well you don't have to read it in the first place!' reply.

I'm of the view that, if people post things and they clearly indicate the subject of the post, rather than 'Help!', then I can decide whether to open that post or not. I hoped I had helped with this by using the header that I did, so that anyone not interested in my receiving a hoax email from 'Paypal' simply wouldn't open it.

You obviously felt the need to open and read my post, even though I'd given every indication that it would be on a subject in which you wouldn't be interested.

I'm sorry that you wasted your time.

I suppose it's a variant of the "woohoo I've inherited ten billion Nigerian dollars" posts.

PayPay annoy me in that they post buttons and links in their genuine emails. They really shouldn't imo.

I think all Banks, Credit Card companies and the like shouldn't use links. It leads people to think that embedded links are good, when they're not always.

Maybe the rest of us don't receive the obviously huge amount of hoax emails that you get. Is there something wrong with your PC security measures? To careful old me, two a week is a surprise....:j

"Security measures" on a PC will not affect the amount of email sent to a particular address.

My company email address has been "out there" for twenty plus years (my personal one for longer than that), and back in the mid 90s I posted on usenet with it, just as address harvesting was getting going . Both are certainly on spammers' mailing lists from back then. and I get a lot of spam / hoax emails as a consequence. Most are detected automatically filtered to spam folders (today so far there are 164 from midnight to 10am in my work spam folder, mostly trying to sell medication, but there are some 419 scams in there as well)
