Will my bad credit rating affect my partners credit rating?

I have a bad credit rating as I am currently repaying debts under a DMP through stepchange. Although I pay every month etc most of my debts are of course recorded as in default.

It would be really useful for me and my partner to have a joint current account. We don't need an overdraft facility. We have avoided opening one as my partner has good credit and we want to keep it that way.

However on my free Noddle report he is listed already as a financial connection due to a joint account we had 2010 - 2013. So my question is, does that mean he is already linked to me and therefore opening a new account would be ok to do? Perhaps we need to check if his lists me?

Any advice appreciated.

Yes why not check his while your at it, check all 3 agencies but remember the score/rating is only seen by yourself, lenders, banks see the credit history.

Get your reports from Noddle and the MSE credit club for a better overall picture.

This explains financial associations - https://help.creditexpert.co.uk/help/sv635/Credit_report/financial_associations

If you have no open joint accounts and don't plan to open any moving forward, you need to ask all the CRA's who show an association to break the link that already exists (if this is what you want as it wont happen by default on closing the associating accounts).

So if the link has never been broken yet my partner's credit rating has remained good, we could probably open a new joint account without a negative affect?
