Many Thanks for all the helpful input!

I can't get in touch with LL as he is overseas so LA basically decides most things for him. I managed to get in touch with managing agent of the building and it turns out the loose TV cable on the floor is Virgin's connection and the other 2 TV points are phonos (so even the inventory list is wrong.) The real TV point from communal aerial has been blocked off by built-in TV cabinet.

So basically our options are either pay to use Virgin TV or pay to install a Freeview aerial. :(
I will try the indoor first, hopefully we can strong signal in our area.

You are incorrect in most communal flats there is a communal aerial and sky dish therefore the previous tennants cannot take the dish or aerial with them.

The connection points are linked to the dish and aerial and whilst sky will not work if you do not have an account the tv aerial should.

I would say there is broken connection between the aerial and your tv points this would be something that your LL should help fix, if there is a concierge/handyman in your flats they may be able to help, if not write directly to your LL asking for this to be fixed as it isn't something you can fix without damaging the walls the cables sit behind.

I was assuming it was a house, having not read the last sentence of the post.

If your 'place' is a house, a solution to your problem could be quite inexpensive.
Just get a aerial/TV man to diagnose your problem.

Like me, you didn't read the last sentence where they state that it's a flat.

Argos sell them and you could take one back if it proved unsuitable. Ours works fine in the bedroom ,via a Humax box, but we're only a few miles from a transmitter.

we have the type that looks like a toy aeroplane wing and find it much better than the old one which was like a mini roof aerial.

So if its an aerial that is being used by others, and their is working ok; then perhaps the aerial is ok?
Its just a matter of plugging things in correctly?

What did the advert / particulars say about TV aerial? Is it mentioned in inventory at all? If the inventory says "TV aerial point, does not work" you have your answer.

An aerial isn't very expensive. It's yours to keep for the future then eg spare rooms and whatnot.

Thats ridiculous. Common sense should tell whoever fitted it to make the aerial accessible. Can you partially dismantle the tv unit without causing damage to it to get to the aerial?
