Cost of furniture storage?

I have explained on another thread that I am looking, without much success, for a short-term let while we have building work going on in our house. If this ever happens, we will need to store some of our furniture/possessions as we would be moving from a 4-bed house to a 2-bed apartment.
In order to give costs to the insurance company, can anyone give me a rough estimate of storage costs and the best way to do it. I'm assuming that the removal firm could take it away and store it after moving us to the rental? If I knew the costs for a 2-bed house contents to be stored for 3 months that would help greatly. We are in the south-east near Gatwick Airport if that helps.
I know this is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but I can't work out how to calculate storage costs even roughly.

We have 40 sq feet of storage for £12.74 per week, in the northwest. Most storage companies online quote these days. So try google.0

Go on storage websites and get quotes! Big Yellow storage, Access Self storage, others that I can't remember. Fill out an online form, you'll get an online quote, and then they'll phone you up 10 minutes later with a revised quote at half the price.0

When I moved in to my current property a few years back, I had the removals co. store some of my furniture until I'd had some refurbishment done. If I remember correctly, I was charged around £12 per week for each furniture item/set. So a sofa suite would be £12 & a wall unit £12 for instance. Added to that was the cost of having the furniture delivered to me once I was ready to receive it. I think that cost about £80. This is for a London suburb. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
We have 130sqm with Shurguard @ around £55 per week + insurance (compulsory)0

Remember there will be insurance on top. I was paying about £95 a month for a storage unit that was a decent size.0

I'd try and avoid the big name storage companies if possible, because you pay for the 24 hour access. I had some furniture etc. stored for a year with my local removal company and it was about a third of the price of th big storage companies. I didn't need any access to it, and only needed to give them a couple of weeks notice when I wanted it back. Worth a try.0

Thanks for the replies. The problem with online is that I haven't got a clue what cubic area I need, I just can't picture what the cubic meterage looks like. I won't need access so would probably want the removals people to store it. I do have one coming around to quote but wanted a headsup on what to expect. Interesting that you were charged per item, cattie, it never occurred to me that might be the case.0

When the person comes to give you a quote ask them how many cubic feet or metres you need when they've seen what you want in storage. Some charge per item, some don't.0

I had a 50sqft room which equates to a bed bed house. 2 beds, sofa and armchair dining table and all the stuff! That cost £13.50 per week for the first 8 weeks, then double after that. Plus £12 insurance for the duration. That was with Big yellow. They sometimes have offers and if someone you know has used them recently they sometimes have vouchers you can use.
I've used them twice, and I got 50% off and free ins the next time I used them for being a returning customer. I had no complaints. Their website has visuals to work out sq footage as well0 -
Thank you both. List Maker (that could be my username!) I take it that you meant a 2-bedroom house rather than a "bed bed"?!0
