Morning
Is it safe to buy an Amazon certified laptop refurb which was released in 2010?
It'll just be used for a child's school work and browsing.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B073FN6DKM/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1502228446&sr=1-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65
And

Also the first one only has windows pro as the operating system is that okay to run rather than windows 10.
Is the second one a good choice too.
Sorry I know I posted a similar post recently but I do appreciate the help!
Regards
Andrew

ThinkPads were built to last, and W7 is far better than W10, the fact it's the Pro rather than Home Premium is a definite plus.
Either of those will do what you want, check the warranty situation on both.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Would you say Dell Latitudes are built to last too?
should be, but I have less hands-on personal experience of them than of ThinkPads....maybe someone else has this info??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Most definitely .. Latitudes are cracking business class machines0 -
Check if the battery has been replaced as part of the refurbishment process. We used to use a lot of Dells in work and the batteries never lasted more than a year to 18 months.0

I've ordered the Lenovo ThinkPad, both machines have 12 months warranty but is there going to be much difference between the Dell's core i3 and the Lenovos core i5, as could save £23 buying the Dell.
What deal do you think is better guys?Girlie Girl0 -

As for your two choices:
You'll not notice much difference in daily use between either of them. You can upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 by doing a clean install using a Fall Creators Update installation disc of Windows 10 and entering the Windows 7 product key during installation.
Either of those is just fine, replacement parts are available in plenty for both and replacement battery costs are identical so if the Dell is cheaper go with the Dell. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Daughters got a Toshiba. Even though i said never leave the battery at 100% she did and it barely lasts long enough for windows to boot.
Then after a fair few years it started shutting down, removed the back panel and took a vac to the cooling fins and replaced with a new battery and all good again.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Left my Toshiba laptop plugged in for years on end, with the battery rarely below 100%. Only replaced the battery last year, after nearly eight years. Just prior to replacing it I was still getting up to ninety minutes out of it. Was never more than 120 minutes when new.
I only replaced it because it stopped charging altogether..
Replacement battery on the same regime.0 -
