Do I need to report unauthorised use of my debit card?

Two days ago my eBay account was hacked, a purchase made, and yesterday the money was debited from my bank account. My eBay account is linked to PayPal, however my card details are not and PayPal confirmed it was a guest account that was used to complete the purchase, so I'm assuming that as well as gaining access to my eBay account they have also obtained my debit card details.

I have of course stopped the transaction from happening with eBay, notified the seller who didn't send the item and a refund has been processed already. I've also notified my bank and cancelled my bank card. But is there a fraud department I should also be notifying it to? Maybe the address the item was going to be sent to (which was an amalgamation of my address and another) could be of some use? Or will that just make me end up with a CIFAS marker on my credit file and more hassle than it's worth? I want to make sure I'm doing as much as I can against these lowlifes!

Sad as it might be, all your helpful information will likely fall on deaf ears. Assuming you're now not out of pocket, I would leave it at that.
  • I agree, if your debit card has been cancelled and will be replaced and you've suffered no financial loss I personally would leave it there.

Fair enough I will then. Just seems so pointless and annoying.

Presumably when you did this you explained the reason, so the bank already have the information that they can pass on internally if they need to.
