Painting for new plastered wall

Hi all, I know this has been asked again and again in other topic, but I just couldn't find anything similar to mine, so please be patient and give me some advise, thanks in advanced.

I recently have newly plastered walls in my kitchen. I waited until the plaster colour turned to white colour and use Valspar Brilliant White for Interior Walls & Ceilings (Matt) as base coat. I did mixed the paint with water (ratio 5:1), and the 2nd coat I used just the paint alone. About 95% of the walls are painted nicely and I'm pretty happy with it, but I still have around 5% of the walls not adsorbing the paint, leaving some funny patch. No matter how many coats I tried to apply, the paint seems not work on these specific areas.

Any reason why and what should I do? I wonder if I apply the colour paint code, would it seal those patches? I haven't done anything as I am not sure what to do with this.

Any advise is appreciated. Many thanks

Could be the plasterer has over-polished in some places so that the paint isn't adhering? I think the answer to this is to apply a primer over these areas, something like zinsser BIN, and then repaint. Or maybe a light sand would suffice. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to confirm or deny lol

    This :)

Try a light sand first, it's definitely over polished. It also looks like you may be over spreading the paint too?

If that doesn;t work then try Zinnser.

  • A light sand should do the job. Don't go mad. We had this when we had our house replastered. Any high spots result in extra pressure from the trowel causing those spots to become over polished and the paint doesn't stick.

I'd give the spots a light sand, then a coat of watered down paint then a normal coat.
