Car Giant and Black Horse...still refusing

I'm not sure where else to go with this as its become a nightmare. I took out a Black Horse Finance PPI with Car Giant in May 2001. I didn't need it as I was covered by my company through sickness and redundancy and wold receive a decent package should they occur. However Car Giant in particular the Compliance Manager (text removed by MSE Forum Team) has refused the claim. In an act of pure unprofessionalism the start of the letter was addressed to a different person!!!
The FOS have refused to take this any further as it happened in 2001 and the rules were not regulated until after this date.
I have all the letters sent to me and its clear that they (Car Giant) will object to any involvement of the FOS because of this ruling.
Does this mean I cannot take this any further?
I'm angry but I think mainly because they have not taken this seriously.
The person who missold me the policy cannot remember the exact transaction but denies that he would have missold the policy to me.
I find this hard to believe as I remember the transaction clearly and remember it being a condition of the finance agreement to cover the car in case I couldn't pay.
I would like some advice. If the FOS are not the last stop, who else is there to go to?
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thank you.

This complaint is three years prior to regulation in 2005, so they don't have to consider your complaint (seriously or otherwise) at all, I'm afraid.I'm angry but I think mainly because they have not taken this seriously.
You are also denied access to the Ombudsman.

A key date as this makes it prior to regulation of insurance and car dealers were not authorised by an earlier body.
redundancy doesnt overlap with PPI and is not guaranteed.I didn't need it as I was covered by my company through sickness and redundancyThe FOS have refused to take this any further as it happened in 2001 and the rules were not regulated until after this date.

The FOS can only look at it if car giant volunteer. They wont. So, that avenue is closed.Does this mean I cannot take this any further?
Yes.I'm angry but I think mainly because they have not taken this seriously.
They appear to have taken it seriously. They responded to your complaint and they rejected it as being pre-regulation.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thanks for the clarification. My anger however is still valid. If Car Giant had at least addressed the text of the letter to me rather than a different person I would've had a little more respect for them in regards to the rules and regulations.

It's 15 years ago - hopefully you've voted with your feet in not using Car Giant again but seriously - let it go0 -
That's for legal reasons. Never make accusations against a named individual on a discussion forum like this one. He acted for and on behalf of his company and your complaint is against that company not him personally.NB: The name has been removed by MSE
Well you could complain about them failing to properly address you, but I can't see that netting you anything other than an apology. My anger however is still valid.
Do you seriously expect the salesman to remember a sale from 16 years ago?The person who missold me the policy cannot remember the exact transaction but denies that he would have missold the policy to me.
I find this hard to believe as I remember the transaction clearly
Regardless, it's pre-regulation and you knew this prior to posting here.0
