Unlinking from an Ex Partner

Good afternoon,
Apologies if I have not posted this in the correct place.
My Ex-Partner and I of five years have recently separated and we're just going through the process of closing our joint accounts (should be done by tomorrow now we have divided the direct debits).
A friend of mine made an off-the-cuff comment a couple of days back saying that I need to make sure that I unlink from my Ex-Partner, incase he were to run up debt, as our credit footprints will be somehow linked. This is not something I really understand, or if I even know is something I actually need to do. Therefore, I just wondered if anyone could give me a little bit of advice, perhaps if they have been through something familiar.
Thank you,
Alex

This explains financial asociations - https://help.creditexpert.co.uk/help/sv635/Credit_report/financial_associations
When you've closed all accounts you will need to contact all 3 CRA's that show a finanical association and ask them to break the link.0 -
Once you've closed all of the joint accounts write to all the CRAs: experian, equifax, callcredit and inform them that you are no longer financially linked. You should then get a confirmation back that they've removed the association.0

All good advice but be prepared for Equifax to be somewhat less than helpful!0
