Recommendation for Feed in Tariff supplier?

Hello - I am hoping for a recommndation... I have had solar panels fitted in March and was automatically given SSE as my FIT supplier. I understand that the rates will be the same everywhere but I'm looking for a supplier with a process for meter reading submissions, which SSE does not seem to have in place. Maybe a bit of customer service unless that's too demanding... ;) Can anyone recommend a provider please?
Thanks.

I use FirstUtility which is easy to use and reliable but take 2 months to pay.
Figure for March to June paid at end of august.

If you're already with one of the major RECs (and I'm pretty sure SSE are one such) then no other REC is likely to accept you transferring the FIT contract to them.

There are of course a host of 'minor' suppliers who would accept your account but most of them are very slow payers - which I understand is probably because they need to wait until the government department that overall manages the scheme has paid them. The larger ones can afford to pay out quicker - possibly by deducting whatever they've paid out from the sums they'd need to pay into the scheme ?

If you are able to switch I would recommend EDF. They were very helpful & quick with the registration.
They are also very prompt payers; all our FIT payments so far have been within a week of submitting readings.

However, I think you may have to switch your electricity supplier to EDF before they will consider taking you on for FIT payments.

Once they have taken you on for FIT payments, there is no problem with switching to another electricity provider; we have switched twice, but still stayed with EDF for FIT payments as their FIT service is 1st class, but as an electric supplier their charges are not competitive for our area.

I'm with SSE. They launched an online meter reading service earlier this year, and it works OK for me. They sent an email to say that as an existing customer I'd been registered with the new service automatically - I can't see how to register online, so you should contact them.

They're also pretty quick to pay - my last meter reading was submitted at the end of the day on 6th July, and the money was in my bank account on 17th July.

I'm another that would recommend EDF.

Email your reading in, and the money's in the bank within 5 days.

  • Thanks for all the comments. It looks like it might be a pain to switch so might give SSE's new online tool a go (don't understand why they haven't told me about this, we've been in email contact and it must be easier for them if I submit my readings online...). And then head for EDF when they fail :)
