Just to let everyone know, before I had my French doors, I had a large double glazed window. It was not great as there was a continual air flow coming in. Could often see the net curtain blowing gently.

With the French doors, I have been getting these probs.

if the vents can go into the outer frame head or base rail not the doors you may not have steel . you can fit vents where there are steel . harder to drill but can do it. £84.00 isn't a lot of money and maybe easier to sort it than try and chase someone who fitted your frames 8 years ago. standard trickle vents fitted properly do not allow much airflow I hope it fixes the problem but look at other options too
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

If you mean what other kind of vents then you can have vents/extractor put into the wall, window, roof, all of those would let in more air than a trickle vent.
