Will advice. Does it need to go to probate?

Hi
Mr dad has recently passed and mum has been to their solicitor. The will was written in 1987. The solicitor has advised my mum that everything has been left to her.
I did attend the meeting with my mum (allowed by mum and solicitor) and can confirm this is what was said. She said nothing more needs to be done other than getting the joint accounts soley in my mums name and once this has been done then to go back and update her own will.
My uncle has advised mum it should go to rebate?
Firstly we do not know what this means , so if someone can explain that would be great.
Surely the solicitor would of advised it needs to go to probate or not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Small estates with no property do not normally need to go to probate, even if they own a home, probate will not be required if they hold it as joint tenants.
  • Would be best to double check with solicitor?

How much legal training does your uncle have?

If you want to waste your time, ask him for references to the law that says the estate has to go to probate.

    Otherwise, listen to the solicitor.

Uncles, random strangers down the pub and on the internet don't tend to have more legal knowledge than trained legal professionals.

The only reason she may need to consult the solicitor again is to update her own will especially if it also was done decades ago.
