New Halifax Credit card - Contactless not working

I received a new Halifax Credit card to replace my old one.
Got contactless on it. However went to use it for a £10 transaction reader wouldn't activate. Used chip and pin and it went through all ok.
Do I have to activate the card for contactless? Just want to rule out simple things before making the trek to the branch

I haven't got any paperwork to hand but i seem to remember on some of my contactless cards the first transaction was required to be chip and pin, from then onwards the contactless would work.

Thanks. I'll have another try at the local shops later in the week.
The card worked ok with chip and pin. I can't understand why the contactless didn't work

Looks like it should be ok, as I have to activate it first by chip and pin.

Though it's not that clear on the website link below. If you click into contactless FAQ there is nothing about activating only, on the main screen which you can miss!

They would need to use chip and pin first to check it is you.

If you carry out several contactless transactions in a short period of time, a requirement for a one-off chip and pin will occur.

First transaction will always require chip and pin to prove you have the card.
