Debit card payment debited but not received

I made a debit card payment Wednesday last week to my Very account for the sum of £300. Usually it reflects in my Very account balance immediately, however it didn't show up at all. I had a Payment confirmation email from Very, and my husbands bank account that we used showed it as debited.

I contacted Very Wednesday afternoon and have been told they haven't received it and when this happens it's usually because the bank "ring fence" the payment and that it will be automatically released back to my husbands account within 3 working days.

My husband went into his bank today and it's still pending to leave the account and the money isn't available to spend. All looks normal at his end but Very have t got it.

Where is the money and how/will we get it back?!

How did you make the payment ? Probably Very's system has not claimed it yet. If they do not claim it the money will become un-ringfenced and be available. The money is still in your account, it is just that you have no access to it.
  • Hi thanks,

I made the payment by logging into my Very account and making a debit card payment with the online system.

How long do Very have to claim the money? I'm concerned this saga could go on forever if their is no time limit for them to claim it.

Can we stop the payment with our bank?

It's a slightly unusual one as normally the debit card payment is for goods or services, and the company would have up to 6 months to take the payment without being required to inform you, and the debt would remain valid for 6 years. However, in this case your payment is to service an existing debt, so I'm not sure where Very would stand about taking the payment late. If it was me and it didn't go through in the next couple of days I would ask Very to cancel the transaction and once the money was fully available in your account make the payment again.
