Using Wireless '802.11 Super G' in Windows Vista

Hi

At present i connect to broadband wirelessly using a Netgear DG834GT router. My desktop pc (running Vista Ultimate) is only a few metres away from the router and i connect using 802.11g (54mb/s) no problems at all. Now the DG834GT is also capable of giving up up to 108mb/s wireless speeds known as "Super G". So i'm thinking of buying a new wireless PCI adaptor for my desktop as my current one only supports 802.11g but the problem is Netgear's own PCI Super G adaptor (WG311T) does NOT support 108mbps speeds in Windows Vista...only up to 54mbs:

However i came across D-Link's DWL-G520:

which they say supports "Super G 108mb/s"...so does this mean that Netgear's and D-link's "Super G" technology is the same thing and these products are compatible?

As for getting up to 108mb/s speeds in Vista, i saw some Vista drivers for the dlink:

do you think these would work?

Has anyone actually managed to get up to 108mb/s wireless speeds in Vista using other PCI cards?

Cheers

You need to use gear from the same manufacturer.

Why bother with Super G? The connection from your PC to the router is currently 54mb/s. The fastest internet access at the moment is 20mb/s with cable so moving to 108mb/s Super G will not improve anything. The only advantage is if you have several PCs in a LAN, then they would be able to talk to each other at 108mb/s, also I think the Super G devices have extended range but as you are only a few metres away that won't be an advantage either.

As Bill says, don't waste your money, it won't make surfing any faster.

Aye Super-G is not so special, unless you are copying gigabytes of data over you wifi like doing backups etc.

The other thing about super-G is they way it uses multiple frequencies is not so neighbour friendly, and is way more susceptiable to co-channel interference than single channel operation.
