Anyone familiar with ottoman beds that can help?
Getting really frustrated with this as I am sure its all fitted right.
I cannot for the life of me get the gas struts to work on an ottoman bed. I have done some research and tried putting the mattress on to add some weight but to no avail.
I assume that the thicker part attaches to the slat frame that raises ,thinner arm to the base but is there some sort of knack to get these operating?
I know these cant be operated unfitted by hand?
Thanks for any advice

What is the problem - The bed won't close or the bed won't open?
The struts are fitted with the cylinder uppermost.0 -
Any help...........??

I can't remember which way they go, but our ottoman bed was very hard to close at first. Felt as if the bedframe would snap before the gas mechanism started closing. They're much better now.0

I would have thought that they will work which ever way you fit them, when i was working we used them on doors and canopies on portable air compressors and they would fit either way, after all it is the same, piston going into the cylinder.0

They are fitted cylinder upwards as they also contain oil to lubricate the sliding seal - they will work the other way but will not last as long.0 -
Thanks guys will take another look:j0

When I bought mine, brand new, and built it, it was in the upright position and wouldn't move. I was petrified of being a bit fierce with it as I thought it should move - and easily ... but I was told "give it one good shove" - and I did - and that sorted it forever.0
