Can't open porthole door of loaded Hotpoint washing machine

Any ideas what to do?
I've removed the front cover to pull the tab which is supposed to release the door but still cannot open.
Their online chat doesn't open till 8.30 on Monday.
Is the only answer to get an engineer to come out? What would be the likely cost?
It's about 20 years old so I think I might just get a new machine - but I need to get the laundry out of the machine!

Is the washer still working, can you put it on a drain cycle as it is probably still sensing full of water.
If it cannot start on cycle can you remove the detergent drawer (with the power off) and run a hose down and syphon the water out, the door should then unlock.
If you are sure there is no water inside and you are going to replace the machine you can try breaking the door using a small crowbar.
I do not think it is worth the cost of trying an engineer, good luck0 -

Washer works - three times! Water drained OK as far as I can tell. It is just that I cannot open the door.0 -
You may be able to drain or check the machine is drained by opening the pump filter which should be near the bottom.
Google the make/model and there may be a code of button presses which performs a complete re-set.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

It is 21 years old. Probably survived this long because it isn't that sophisticated. But I'll try. Think I'll have to take the whole thing apart (or warn the neighbours I'll be making a lot of noise breaking it) to get the clothing out.0 -
Does it have a filter door, usually located on the front, down the bottom of the machine. Open that and see if theres a manual pull rod inside there. Some have them, some don't, but if you do, pull it and door should open.0

Take the top off,( switch off the electric first ) and you will see the relay that allows the door to open when the cycle is finished, move the relay with your hand and open the door.
We had this problem with ours and what had happened was the end had snapped off the end of the relay, easy to replace.0 -
Many years ago when young, skint and less careful, I used a fork to open a washing machine door. Jammed in at the right point it worked, the tine end.
Also used a heavy bucket to hold door closed, ah simpler times63 mortgage payments to go.
Zero wins 2016 😥0 -
That's what I've done before, take the top off...reach down and release the lock by hand.0
