Good Evening All,

I'm thinking about purchasing a laptop from CEX, I've seen some decent looking deals online and in store.

They are all refurbished and have 2 year warranties, has anyone got experience of purchasing a laptop from CEX?

I just want a laptop that can run open office/Microsoft office, windows 10, browse the net and capable of allowing a child to do their secondary school work.

Also found this https://www.gigarefurb.co.uk/dell-latitude-e5420-intel-core-i3-2310m-2-1ghz-4gb-ddr3-memory-320gb-hdd-14-windows-10-refurbished-laptops.html

Regards

Andrew

Thanks for your advice in advance.

The best thing about buying from CEX is the peace of mind that comes with their 24 month warranty. I haven't bought a laptop form them, but I did once buy a PS3 that went on to develop a fault - and CEX sorted it without problem. Having said that, in my opinion, you do pay quite a premium price for some electrical items at CEX. Yes, they have store overheads and wages to consider, and yes they have to factor in the cost of offering an extended warranty, etc...but at the end of the day you can often find the same or similar items on eBay and some classifieds for a fraction of the cost. You either pay more and have peace of mind, or take a chance and pay less (sometimes considerably less) elsewhere.

Not dealt with GigaRefurb, but here's what Trust Pilot thinks:
    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.gigarefurb.co.uk

The Dell laptop you link to, will do everything you say you want it to do, at a very good price. The only caveat might be the small Hard Drive, at 160GB you might want to buy an external Hard Drive for more storage and backups.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • Clicking on that GigaRefurb link, I see only a 12 month warranty is included in the price. You pay an extra £47.99 for 2 years or £51.59 for 3 years.

I've not claimed under the CEX warranty but reading the terms and conditions it's perhaps not as great as it sounds, the way I'm reading it is that if it goes faulty twice and it's after six months they'll only refund the current price of it:
Within the first 30 days, should your item turn faulty through normal use, CeX will be able to offer a full refund to your original payment method. CeX reserve the right at their sole discretion for secondhand Goods returned after 30 days from the purchase date that under proper use are, or become, defective within a period of 24 months* (on all items purchased on or after 14th Nov 2015) from the point of receipt to:
    (a) Make good by repair or replacement
    (b) Failing that if the item proceeds to go faulty again through normal use we will do the following
    (i) within the first 6 months of purchase we will refund to the original price.
(ii) after 6 months from purchase, we will refund to current/original price (whichever is the lower)

Sounds like they're complying with their legal requirements per the Consumer Rights Act 2015, wherein a seller can reduce the amount of refund due to the consumer's ownership of the goods.
