cant play video samples of internet

hi, i recently installed nero 8, but took it off as i did not like it, but ever since then, when i click on a video sample or song, in internet explorer that would just redirect it to windows player before, now i get nothing, except a page up saying i am not connected to internet, when i installed nero8, it took over all my file extensions, so that all files caould be viewed thru showtime, but i have since changed all them back to windows media player, i have used the tool of neros website to completly remove nero of my system, so that is not the problem, can anybody tell me why internet explorer will not let me play any clips, i am running vista ultimate if that helps, many thanks Dave.
