Credit file error!!

Hello everyone, I'm in the process of renting a house and they are doing credit checks at the minute, I've just had a look at my credit file and Experian have added a ccj??? I've never had a ccj my name is Richard but this ccj is registered to Stuart? This stuart has the same sername as me so how do I go about this, I've already paid the estate agents £270 for the credit and background checks which they are doing at the minute so that would surely fail it even though it's not my ccj how in the hell can they get this wrong? Some advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you! Rich.

Thank you both for your help! Yeah I've looked on noddle and clear view they have nothing about ccj or Iva etc, obviously it's an error but it's so frustrating as I cannot phone anymore until Monday, also this could wreck us getting the house we want as (your move) estate agents are using experian to do the credit and work references as we completed the forms and sent them via email yesterday so we could lose the £270 fee lose the house and worse of all we handed in our notice to the landlord yesterday! To say I'm livid is an understatement!! Thank you so much for your help I appreciate it! 🙂0

Might be best to be proactive and tell the estate agent of the problem up front. Then they will be aware of it and your dispute so might be more occomodating. Especially since it is not in your name!0 -
Yeah I'm going to have to phone them tomorrow and warn them and then ring experian, I've sent them an email but I'll ring them when I get back from work! If we get failed because of this I will try and Bill them the £270, I can't believe a company of that size can get something so wrong and actually effect someone's life!! Thanks again! 😊0

Just go back to Experian...check Noddle and check equifax before going to letting agency.
You don't know whch credit agency they use...
Make sure you have all the facts in front of you before you do anything.
Just read through your information and then explain to them what has happened. If it is an honest mistake then it should hopefully sort itself out.
You also got to remember that you need to sort your credit file.
Then calmly speak with the letting agency0 -
You won't be able to "bill them", don't waste your time on this. Simply do what most people should be doing and periodically check on your credit file.
Thank you for the advice Yeah I do check with noddle and clear score so I check every month and I don't want to pay £15 a month for something I can get for free but I suppose when you pay £15 for Experian you get more detail wrong ccj in someone else's name. The estate agents use Experian to check credit and work backgrounds so we'll fail that!0 -

You could certainly look at this as being a breach of the data protection act. Mainly the forth data protection principle that all personal information should be accurate and upto date.
If you suffer a loss due to this breach, then look at this page by the ICO.
