Thanks Motoroguy some great advice there. Did you appoint a contractor? if so, can you recommend any. We are building between Armagh & Dungannon. We have just got prices in and they have all came in at £90-£100sq ft and that isn't even a complete finish. Only downstairs flooring and 1 bathroom finished, with only a £10k allowance for kitchen.

The contractor we used has subsequently went out of business. Its a shame as he was exceptionally good. :(

He was from Markethill too so would have been ideal.

What sort of spec was yours finished to? We have a budget of around 280k but doesn't have to be finished for that, a bedroom with en suite and kitchen is all we need to be completed, the rest can be done anytime!

Hi Cluelessselfbuilder - we are now at the stage you were at last year. How have you got on with your costs? our costs have come in at £100 sq/ft and that is excluding quite a bit of flooring and only allowing £10k for kitchen. Can you recommend any contractor to do the whole package?

They now trade under the catchy name "Plumbing Supplies Lurgan"

    http://www.plumbingsupplieslurgan.com/

They've a showroom upstairs and the plumbing supplies bit is downstairs. If you need assistance when you're there try to get talking to Jim, the owner.

  • Hi, Anyone any updates on building a house at the minute? Currently have mine started with external/internal walls 50% complete & finalising prices for roof.

Interested in hearing anyone else in the same position.
  • Hey guys,

With regards to building a new home, we've found that Haldane Fisher are absolutely brilliant.
Several branches across Northern Ireland and servicing parts of the UK too.

They have a section on their website specifically for self build, plus bathrooms, kitchens, and general Building supplies.

    Search Haldane-Fisher on Google.
Sorry I can't post a link to their site in here. Best of luck!
