My sister in law is an estate agent so I asked her!

So if anyone approaches her with a view to selling their house in the Glossop area she'll tell them not to bother as they'll get a lot more in a couple of years time. Yes?. No....?

Glossop: not so much a town, more a traffic jam with houses.

Oh dear, I was hoping you would come up with something a little more credible to back up your assertion.

Do you always take the word of unqualified, commission based, sales people as gospel?

The op asked if anyone who knew the area thinks property prices are set to increase. I have answered that question. And how do you know what qualifications my sister in law has? Or whether her salary is commission based?

You've not 'answered the question'... you've offered an opinion based on nothing what so ever.

Just this morning I caught an episode of 'Homes Under The Hammer' where there was numerous examples of EA's giving wildly varying valuations of properties (40%+ difference)...that was on specific properties at a precise moment in time, that's how credible your sister in laws or any other EA's opinions/predictions are.

Quite how or why you'd put any faith in an EA's opinion of what a whole market area is going to do over an indefinite period of time into the future is beyond me.

My parents in laws just sold a rubbish house in Mottram (up the road from Glossop) for £30k profit within three years...

    Not sure why though...

Yes, I second the traffic jam part, and the rubbish weather, and the connecting traffic to Sheffield clogging the roads and the high crime rates to name but a few.

In all honesty (and positivity :D )... I believe places like Glossop are becoming appealing for those who work in Manchester, it's commutable but the countryside is the attractive addition.

Quite why everyone except the op (who started the thread) is bothered by my comment is beyond me. I asked my sister in law her opinion as she has been an estate agent manager for about 30 years. She's quite aware that I don't have a property to sell in glossop so is hardly likely to give me the 'hard sell' for commission, or over estimate the value of a property to ensure I sell with her agency as I don't have a property in glossop to sell! She was merely giving her professional opinion as a friend. It's a wonder people bother trying to help others with advice or opinions when you get comments like these. You didn't ask for the advice so if you don't like it (or the op for that matter) then please choose to ignore it!

This is brilliant news. Please, may I ask a favour on behalf of all of us on the forum? could you go to your original post, click on "edit" and "go advanced". In the top box can you type (or paste) in "How to find accommodation in a distant town/city"

This would help future people using the forum to get the benefit of what you've learned.

I hope and trust all goes well for your son.

What on earth has this poster done to offend you in real life? Because nothing they've said on this thread seems to be bad enough to get the kind of reaction they're getting from you.
