Hi all
Before I get accused of being slap dash or careless, plesae read the post, as I know some of you get annoyed when people leave things to the last minute!
I enrolled at college this year to do an Access to teaching qualification, having been told I could not go directly to Uni. To cut a long story short, I spoke to a Uni yesterday who offered me an immediate conditional place, pending my interview on Monday morning. If I pass, I am expected to start on Tuesday.
I am on Income Support, full housing benefit, Child tax credit and and full council tax rebate. (single parent)
I will freely admit that I do not know what happends financially with my benefits and or loans/grants/bursaries etc!!
If anyone can give me some indication I would really appreciate it!

I got all my info from www.direct.gov.uk under the student finance section. It will lead you in the right direction about what you are entitled to and where to apply. Hope that helps.Good luck with the interview.Credit Card Debt

Full time students cannot claim HB/CTB *unless* they fall into various catagories, one of which is lone parent, and I believe IS has some bearing on it.
You may find that getting the student loan (if you do get it) does affects your benefits though.
Best thing to do is probably contact the CAB or similar.0 -
After your interview, go to the University's Student Services office and ask to see an Adviser (different Unis call them different things, but you should be able to find it).
You will remain eligible for IS/HB but the level of student support you get may mean you won't actually receive any except in the summer vacation; you will be exempt from Council Tax as a full-time student, so will not need CTB.
Well done!

I had a similar problem this year and found the student loans co. extremely helpful when i contacted them (it may take a while to get through). If you tell them your situation with no grey areas they will happily advise you what you can claim for and sometimes approximate what you can recieve.
Good Luck with the interview.0 -
Thank you-I got in and start tomorrow!!0
