Army dependent child pension

An army pension is paid for to my neice. Her late father was a soldier and financially responsible for her.
neice is now rising 16 and is aware that the pension for her is paid to her mother, she is a bright girl and hopes to progress to university. She is not taking a gap year.
What happens to her pension over the next few years? Could it be paid directly to her?

The pension is payable up to 18 - or 23 if the child remains in full time education, which seems to be the intention here.
Your niece and her mum can ask Armed Forces pensions to pay your niece's pension into her own account from age 16 - but your niece will have to wait until she is 18 if her mum doesn't agree.0
