Or buy a sheet of ND film from a camera shop.0 -
We have a Pure Siesta (older, original model) and it's been a solid performer. Auto dimming in a dark room, wake to FM or DAB, choice of weekdays only, etc.
The only downside is the lack of buttons to select stations by touch, we had a Roberts with such buttons but it suffered from glitches on the mains shutting it off and Roberts aren't able to fix it! The Pure has no such issues.0 -
I recently got one of these: http://amzn.eu/46JxO3Y
and have been pleased with it.
Advantages for me are:
Proper telescopic aerial rather than a bit of wire
DAB+, not many stations use it yet, but it means I can get Jazz FM
24 hour clock which can be dimmed
USB charging port
It has other features that I'll probably never use such as Bluetooth, aux input.0 -

Ditto re Pure Siesta. I have 2 Pure DAB radios and they've worked flawlessly for years.0 -

I put my eye blind over the clock display. Then grab it off and wear it if I wake up early morning and it's light.0 -

Thanks, that looks good.0 -

I think resorting to things like putting tape over are for when you have already bought an item and find you have an issue. Otherwise it's better to just try and get something that does not have the issue in the first place.0 -
Last night thinking about the earlier tablet suggestion I decided to try out the radio player app on my phone. It can be set to go off after a period of time but I found while the vocals sounded fine the music was too low. I will have to see if I can play around with the sound settings. Otherwise it will be one of the suggestions here.0

I have used a Sony Dream Machine for the last 24 years. Pretty perfect. Mine doesn't have DAB of course. There is a modern version on Amazon.0

I have a cheap red-led display mains fm one which I got from Sainsburys for £7 or something- certainly under a tenner.
It does the job and supposedly pure red light is best for sleeping.0
