Wood stain/protection for log cabin

I've decided to re-do the wood stain/protection on my log cabin this weekend but not sure which product to buy. It's been treated previously (no idea what with) but is now becoming dull and patchy in places, mainly on the side the rain hits it most.

I don't think it's a varnish that's on there as it's not flaking off anywhere but is more like a stain with a dull sheen to it, possibly a satin stain or something?

Would this be ok to go straight over the top (obviously after being wiped clean of any debris) or would I need to sand all the wood down first? (Hope not as it would take forever! )

Can anyone recommend a product to use please?

I would use Sadolins exterior wood stain, comes in various shades or clear.

Sikkens cetol, if you want to really push the boat out!

Both excellent products, pricey, but worth it.

*edit to say :- no need to sand down just clean as you have suggested
