Hi,
Thank you for taking time to read and consider a reply.
I have moved to a new property and after 9 months i am still getting mail often signed for mail for the previous occupants.
I have crossed out the delivery details and posted them back to sender (rts) ,saying on envelope i am the new property owner with the date i moved in.I also have photos of the mail i have returned with the date i returned them.
I have had 2 bailiffs visiting at stupid hours of the night, wanting money. How they got through the communal front door is another matter.
Soon i will be away for 6 months and any mail will for previous tenants will not be returned and i fear my front door will be mashed/my property searched and my property left open or repaired in my absence with an invoice for me to pay.
What to do ?
thank you,

If you showed the bailiffs proof that you are not the person they want and that you are the new property owner, there is no reason why they should come back.
If you are going away for 6 months, have you not got somebody popping into check the empty house every couple of weeks? Can they not stick the mail in the postbox for you? It doesn't need all that detail on the envelope, just 'RTS Not known at this address' will do.0 -
Ask a neighbour to kindly deal with your mail and keep an eye on the placeChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Why did you sign for and take mail which wasn't yours?phone the royal mail and ex plain. I assume you don't know old tenants address? I did have post bring sent to me for some unknown person. I kept sending it bacl but one day o was going through my mail and accidentally opened it. ( it really was accidental!)
It was an insurance company. I phoned the number shown and explained what I had done. I also let them know that I had been in my house from new . I had to sellotape it and send it back. Haven't had any more! You could ty accidentally opening an envelope and then phone to explain.

In one of my old houses I got sick of sending stuff back as RTS person unknown so eventually deliberately opened a few, most were from debt collectors and I called them all to explain and within a few weeks most of the mail stopped. The few that didn't were just junk mail/advertising type things rather than anything important. I don't care whether I was allowed to open it or not, after almost two years of returning things it was the only thing that worked.0 -
Royal Mail do a "keep for me" service, so while you are away, the post won't pile up.0

If you aint got anyone to lok in from time to time and then even if it's infrequent and you are worried why not get a big board the other side of the door with a large READ ME BALIFFS sign on it and details.
Though you should be fine. most baliffs have to do peaceful entry. so can't get in unless you leave it insecure.
Been in my house 2 years. Still get post for the previous people. Even DVLA Stuff. No point sending it back as whats gonna happen. They will only remove the address if they get another from the person they are trying to contact. They won't accept it from you even if you know it.0
