Bathroom to wet room

Hi I wasn't able to search this forum so apologies if this is a duplicate.
I need to get my bathroom converted to a wet room. I've read that this is very expensive because of the need to tank the existing room. That puts it way over what I can afford.
Has anyone done it successfully without tanking? Is it possible to get a ball park figure for this job?. My budget is very limited so I need some idea of cost before I start getting quotes. There's no point wasting people's time.

What's your budget? Very limited doesn't sound hopeful.

The entire premise of creating a wet room is that the room is tanked. You can't do it without tanking. And then you need to cover what is tanked, usually with tile. All labour intensive and messy.

You're talking in exess of £4k even if you re-use sink and toilet and use some sort of suitable lino product on the floor instead of tile.

Would a walk-in shower with a shallow 40mm tray be usable instead, or are we talking wheelchair user?
