Single PArent mature student - help

Options
Hello,
I currently work 4 days a week and have 2 children (age 3 and 1) I accepted a place at university which starts in sept on an early childhood studies degree with a view to doing a PGCE in Primary teaching and have handed notice at work. All my finance was worked out based on my husband living with us. He has since left. I am claiming as a single person working part time and thats OK but no one can tell me what benefits i will be entitled to once i leave work and start the degree. Tax credits are no use until i have left employment.

I know i will get the maintenance loan, A living allowance and the childcare element through the university but does anyone know what actual benefits i will be entitled too? I do not want to give up on my dream and so i just need to know where i stand going forward.

Any help would be appreciated.

You might be better enquiring on the benefits and tax credits board
  • Hi

I am in a similar position, I spoke to CAB, they advised I would get Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit. Ensure student finance know you are a single parent. You should get the full maintenance loan, parents learning allowance and help with childcare.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
