Christmas holidays - recommendations please

Hello

We're planning to go away perhaps only for 2 or 3 nights in December this year. We want somewhere really nice and festive with plenty of markets and things to do.

Can anyone recommend places they've been for such a trip please?

The plan is to go somewhere in Europe maybe Germany/Scandinavia but really not sure so open to suggestions.

Thanks.

Go onto skyscanner, search everywhere from your nearest airports and then see the closest towns or cities to the best value flights. Keep working through the list until you find somewhere you like, combining with a review of tripadvisor or other sources.

Cologne, Dusseldorf, Nuremberg, Munich and Frankfurt are all good as is Berlin of course. Check Ryanair and Easyjet prices around your dates for best deal that suits. Alternatively coach firms like Shearings, National Holidays etc do organised trips.

Not so sure I'd want to chance all the potential types of airport delays just for 2 or 3 nights.

We loved Salzburg in Austria when we went a few years ago. Easy journey from the airport to the main bus terminal and then bus to the centre. Lovely Christmas market by the Cathedral. A trip up to the fortress is also worthwhile as lovely views over the city. Lots of stalls and places selling mulled wine.

We are also just back from a break to Strasbourg France and the German Black Forest region. We stayed in a lovely old fashioned town In the Black Forest called Gengenbach and that looks lovely in photos at Christmas time. Ryanair flights from Stansted were only £20 in total per person return (took hand luggage) to Strasbourg. Then got a 24 day pass for all trams buses etc (trip for up to 3 people) when in Strasbourg. You can get a Europass24hr for a family for 14 euros (can be used for just 2 adults as well) at the train station or ticket machine to travel from Strasbourg train station to Gengenbach (40 min journey including one change at Offenburg). If you stay in Gengenbach you get a Konus card for free travel around the region and the train is 5 mins walk from the Town centre and regular train services (you can get a Euro pass mini 24 family for about 10eruros at the Gengenbach station ticket machine for the way back as the konus can be used for part of the journey to border and you just remain on the train). Triberg is an easy train journey from Gengenbach for extra Christmas displays.

    Say whaaaaaaaat????

90% of the people who arrive at my little airport have been away for 2 or 3 nights, hell we still have people who pop to amsterdam for lunch.

Given that the average travelling member of the public likes a good moan when they get back to the UK i havent heard any moaning from them yet. And we have services from the airports which have been effected
