Be prepared for LHR security to body scan your children

Have LHR security had some warning about children being used for smuggling or something?
My daughter flew out of LHR on Wed and they picked their 5-year-old to go in the full body scan machine.
She said this bizarrely came right after three other small children, all of whom were screaming and crying. The staff, she said, couldn't manage the situation and it was pretty ugly.

I am prepared. It didn't take much effort, frankly.0 -

I can't see any problem with it at all. Seems like a complete non-issue to me.0

I think they were freaked out by being separated from their parents, put into a confined, cupboard-like space and having to stand in a certain way. It's a bit of a weird experience for an adult, never mind a 5-year-old.
But it sounds as though the staff could have handled it better.0 -
I would have thought most kids would actually see that as a bit of fun.
See it as preparing the kids for the real life and a new experience.
Sounds more like your daughter being over dramatic about the situation.0 -
You've clearly got no kids, then, Westin?

I agree. Sounds like exactly the activity kids queue up to do in interactive experience venues. Seeing lots of adults also performing the (hardly difficult) feat makes kids more wishing to try.
The majority of the wall is glass, I don't think separation anxiety (seriously???!!) comes into play.
Children feed of their parents, so a difference between "your turn now" and "oh I don't think my kid will cope with that" can make a difference. You've clearly got no kids, then, Westin?
I have kids, if that makes me an expert:rotfl:I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. "Ooh this is exciting" might be a way for a parent to prepare a soft brat for such an experience.0

And this is the crux of it - the number of (alleged) grown-ups who still try to rebel against security searches (tutting/moaning/objecting/snide comments/abuse) has to be seen to believed. Add this to the young snowflakes we're creating and airports are a recipe for meltdown0
