Does anyone have artificial grass and regretted it?

How weird 2 questions at the same time....

There are numerous reasons why replacing a plain lawn area at the back of the house with artificial grass makes sense, has anyone put one down - either yourself or professionally - and regretted it, or the best thing you did?

I've got some samples sent and it looks a lot more realistic than it used to.

  • My partner's mum and dad had their garden artificially turfed about 5 or 6 years ago. To them, its the best thing they could have done. Its fairly low maintenance, they just give it a brush every now and then. It still looks as good as it did new.

They had it done when they retired, mainly because they're not getting any younger, and didn't want to have to continue having to cut grass.

Its not to my taste (I prefer real grass) as I think it looks too green in winter, but I can certainly see the appeal.

We had it put front and back last year. Not regretted it for 1 minute. Paid a bit more for better quality but not the most expensive. That was down purely to the preferred feel of the grass

With an acre of the stuff, constantly criss crossed by moles and voles, I think it's as well it's out of my budget.

I put down large areas of weed fabric and the ground constantly shifts under it, so within a few years something I've rolled looks like waves with deep holes at random intervals.

And don't ask what happens when a puff ball fungus decides to come up. Just take it that the puff ball always wins, no matter how hard you jump on it!
  • The next door neighbour has it.

It looks ridiculous, although the fact they haven't levelled the surface completely underneath possibly has something to do with it - it looks like a poorly fitted plastic carpet in the garden.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
