Registering charity HMRC

I am going round in circles trying to register a charity with HMRC and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I have followed this link you get when googling registering charity with HMRC. I can't post the link directly as I'm a new user.

Using this link and the portal I end up with a list of services to choose from and the relevant one is Charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs. Clicking on this gives a series of boxes to complete the first and only essential box being the HMRC Charities Reference which according to the description is the number that was sent to you when you successfully applied for charity tax relief or were registered as a CASC. But that's exactly what I'm trying to do! If I put into google registering charity with HMRC I end up back at the same link.

Any idea what I should be doing?

Try a phone call? I know that would have to be during the day, but I've usually found HMRC very helpful with charity queries.
