Boiler ventalation

Hi Fitting a new kitchen and putting a cupboard around my boiler.
It's a Apollo 15/30b.
Just been reading about ventilation to the cupboard and it says a high and low vent is req of 99cm2 each.
I am looking at putting a vent in high and low as per manual.
Question.... does it need to be in the cupboard door?
Can it be in the top and bottom of the carcus ?
Do the vents need to be powered or free flow?
Can i use metal vents?
Do I new need to put a sign on the door?
It's very unclear and getting a little worried!
Thanks

Top and bottom of the carcus will be fine.
The vents need to be just free flow.
Material doesn't matter, as long as the slots are between 5-10mm.
There should be a compartment label on the boiler, don't worry about that though gas safe guy will do that in the next service.0 -
It's an old boiler but if it's still working ok then no point in changing it, but as you are fitting a new kitchen I would make sure a replacement boiler will be able to be fitted without too much distruptionI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
vents top and bottom are the way,you could even drill large round holes top&bottom to provide compartment ventilation.A number of 25mm holes i will let you do the calculation.
Boilers manufacturers require their appliances to be fitted to BS british standards, something like this quote......A cupboard or compartment used to enclose the boiler must be designed and constructed specifically for this purpose. An existing cupboard or compartment may be used provided that it is modified for the purpose. Details of essential features of cupboard/compartment design including airing cupboard installations are given in BS6798 and BS5546 and should be complied with.
Dont worry most gas tech's dont understand/know or have time to consult their BS although they should have the reference material at hand thou.0 -
